Our experience

A History of Excellence

After 10 years of successfully owning and growing Serendipity in Exeter, NH, Brie Delisi took that life sabbatical much of us take to pursue motherhood; but that didn’t retire the flame to her passion. She quickly learned of Prelude’s impending future and knew she needed to be a part of it.

The last owner of Prelude, Holly Landgarten, was ready to retire; selling Prelude after 17 years. The fit was perfect. In July of 2015, Brie Delisi became the fourth and proud owner of Prelude. Since 1983, Prelude has been a thriving business in the historic district of Portsmouth and has specialized in handmade jewelry, unique gifts, and high quality bath and body products for both men and women. Since Brie’s acquisition, a remodel and many more exciting handmade/fair trade lines have been introduced to the eclectic collection of products.

Meet Brie

Brie DeLisi started her career as a boutique owner when she bought her mother’s last store, Serendipity in Exeter, NH in 2005. Her mother had started her first store in New London, NH in the late 60’s and owned a total of five throughout her successful career in retail. Brie grew up playing and working in Serendipity and has always felt at home within the space of a boutique.

Even though Brie loved her mother’s stores, her passion for teaching children lead her down a path of early childhood education. Brie taught for a few years in Vermont and then at a Montessori school in NH. Although she was loving her journey in education, she couldn’t turn down the opportunity to purchase Serendipity when her mother was ready to retire.

Brie was pleasantly surprised to be able to

… continue teaching her community while owning a store when she discovered and embraced the fair trade and locally handmade movement. Brie did not want to sell just anything. She felt it was extremely important to promote and encourage her customers to buy gifts that made a difference in the lives of artisans locally and worldwide. She took a vow to not buy and sell products that exploited the earth or the people who made them.

Brie has also been blessed with an amazing staff of women whom she could not successfully run Prelude without. This includes her amazing manager, Maeve Sullivan. You will see her lovely face most days of the week at Prelude. Brie and her staff can’t wait to welcome you into the beautiful cozy space of Prelude when you have the opportunity to visit!
